LETTERPRESS – 2 day workshop with Theo Wang

Monday 15 – Tuesday 16 July 2024

In this 2 day course we will take a deeper dive into the processes, techniques and creative possibilities of letterpress. We will be starting from the basics of typesetting, layout planning, typographic design and the history of letterpress, then moving on to operating an Adana hand press and developing into working with bigger type on the Vandercook 232P.

Letterpress is a methodical, detailed form of printmaking that can be very flexible and deeply satisfying. This intensive workshop will introduce the essential skills that you need to get started with letterpress and hopefully develop further.

This workshop is suitable for anyone with an interest in letterpress; whether you have some experience or none at all.

The course will be run by Theo Wang who operates as Print & Ephemera. He has been a printmaker for 18 years and a lifelong enthusiast of typography, wordplay, craftsmanship, and the printmaking process. Based in Bristol, he originally studied at the London College of Printing and has worked previously with organisations like the V&A, Tate Britain and Museum of London, he set-up Print & Ephemera in 2017 to continue to develop his letterpress practice. Theo currently focuses on collaborating with other printmakers and independent businesses as well as developing his own range of printed products, limited edition artworks, and running workshops to help share the skills of letterpress.
