The 10 week Contemporary Relief Printmaking course is packed full of ideas on creating multi-coloured & multi-layered linocuts, woodcuts and wood engravings. You will learn the basic techniques of designing, cutting and printing using our traditional printing presses. The tutors will encourage and support your exploration of the medium to create your own designs and ideas.

This course will explore one of the oldest forms of printmaking, and how it can be used in contemporary practice to produce powerful and striking images. Two professional artists specialising in Relief Print will take you through these processes with friendly advice and encourage an experimental approach.

Participants will gain experience of inking techniques and confidence in using the studio. Tutors will demonstrate traditional methods of printmaking using both a press and share techniques on printing by hand to produce a series of printed works. You will be encouraged to look at contemporary artists who use relief to extend your own visual printmaking vocabulary. No matter what your current ability this course will be able to provide excellent starting points for beginners and improvement methods for those who have already got some experience. From expressive mark making to contemporary block printing – this course will open your mind to the mesmerising world of relief printing.
