Course Outline

This is a 1-year (30 week) course designed to give you a sustained and intensive period of study. It is an excellent opportunity to build a portfolio of work, to develop confidence and ideas in your own practice, and to learn new skills.

During this course you will experiment with a range of printmaking techniques to develop and transform your own drawings or found images into repeat patterns and surface decoration within textile design.

It is a practical, workshop based course that will include screen print with photo emulsion and paper stencils, lino print, block print, mono-printing, and heat transfer.

The principles and theories of design and pattern will be introduced through demonstrations, the study of contemporary artists and the development of your own personal ideas from the image through mood boards, experimentation, sampling, colourways and final pieces.

The course will also consider the exciting commercial application of these techniques and how designs, repeat pattern and print can be used on products such as cushions, tote bags, t-shirts and scarves.

The course will end with an exhibition in the studio, open to family, friends and the public.
