10-Week Etching with Emma Gregory

£360

Tuesday 24 Sept – 3 Dec 2024
6pm – 9pm

This course is aimed at those who are new to etching, those who need a refresher and those that are looking to continue their practice. You will come away with a strong foundation and confidence to pursue your own projects,

For beginners we will  cover the basic principles of etching, from hard and soft ground to an introduction to aquatint. You will produce a set of plates that can be inked in colour and in combination with each other, in order to explore multiple plate registration techniques.

More advanced techniques and processes will be introduced to those who wish to further develop their practice.  This could be in the areas of drypoint, etching, monotype, monoprint, collagraph and embossing,  all intaglio processes.

Emma Gregory trained in printmaking to degree level at Central School of Art, learning from Norman Ackroyd who was then Head of Etching. She has since picked up postgraduate qualifications in fine art and teaching.

Emma has taught printmaking since 2005.  In 2008 Emma resurrected the etching studio at The Bluecoat in Liverpool, adding screen printing and letterpress facilities over the following seven years. She has authored reviews and technical articles for Printmaking Today and is a regular contributor to UWE’s Masters’ course in Multidisciplinary Print. Since 2016 she has designed and delivered innovatory courses for us but with this course she is returning to an old favourite – the foundations of intaglio.

As an artist, Emma makes work in many mediums and creates development opportunities for other artists from a studio at Bricks’ St. Anne’s House. This follows a long career as an arts manager, scenic artist and educator (Riverside Studios, Yorkshire Dance, The Bluecoat, The Hayward, Whitechapel, National Theatre, Holburne Museum).
