10-Week Textile Printing with Emma Studd
£360
10 week course with Emma Studd
Tues 14 Jan – 25 Mar 2025
1.30pm – 4.30pm
Join Emma for this fun introduction to printing on fabric, using both screen print and relief.
The first 5 weeks will be in the screen printing room learning how to screen print onto fabric.
We will start with paper stencils to understand the process and to play with overlapping colours, and then learn how to turn your motif/idea into a repeat pattern and translate this to positives for photo emulsion screens.
You will be shown how to coat and expose screens ready to print a 2-colour repeating pattern on fabric, which can then be used to make a cushion or a lampshade at home.
You will also design and print one of your ideas onto a tote bag in the studio.
The second half of the course will be spent in the relief room learning how to:
- print with household and recycled objects to create repeating patterns.
- practice cutting and printing with large rubbers
- design and cut a lino tile and use this to print a rotating, repeating pattern onto fabric.
We will then combine a few of your favourite techniques to create some more complex patterns.
Suitable for complete beginners or those with some previous textile/printing experience.
Emma is one of our very experienced screen print tutors and teaches our beginners course as well as leading the Year in Textiles Printmaking. Emma screen prints mostly original one-off works of geometric art, predominately on paper but also on wood. You can see more of her work here.
