5 Week BEGINNERS Etching with Emma Gregory
£225
Tues 17 June – Tues 15 July 2025
5 week course with Emma Gregory
1.30pm – 4.30pm
This course is aimed at those who are new to etching.
We will cover the basic principles of etching, from hard to soft ground, including grounding plates, experimenting with different tools to create line & tone, and biting images.
You will have the opportunity to print in both black & white and colour.
Emma Gregory trained in printmaking to degree level at Central School of Art, learning from Norman Ackroyd who was then Head of Etching. She has since picked up postgraduate qualifications in fine art and teaching.
Emma has taught printmaking since 2005. In 2008 Emma resurrected the etching studio at The Bluecoat in Liverpool, adding screen printing and letterpress facilities over the following seven years. She has authored reviews and technical articles for Printmaking Today and is a regular contributor to UWE’s Masters’ course in Multidisciplinary Print. Since 2016 she has designed and delivered innovatory courses for us but with this course she is returning to an old favourite – the foundations of intaglio.
As an artist, Emma makes work in many mediums and creates development opportunities for other artists from a studio at Bricks’ St. Anne’s House. This follows a long career as an arts manager, scenic artist and educator (Riverside Studios, Yorkshire Dance, The Bluecoat, The Hayward, Whitechapel, National Theatre, Holburne Museum).
