Collagraph and Mixed-Media in printmaking
Creating collagraph plates is a fun, expressive and unpredictable printmaking technique. This 2 day course in collagraph will open your views for new possibilities of making plates and printing! Almost all techniques Iva now employs, have come not from books, but from her own trial and error, which she recommends all artists to practise.
Collagraph is an experimental form of printmaking which involves adding layers of adhesive or solid material to the surface of a printing plate, making it possible to incorporate both, relief and intaglio printmaking methods on a single plate.
Our focus will be on exploring plaster of paris and carborundum, materials which can add a sculptural element to the printmaking style. The contrasting textures which can be achieved are limited only by the imagination! This course is suitable for beginners as well as for experienced printmakers who like mixed-media. We’ll learn about different methods of inking plates, such as ‘A la poupee’, where lovely variations in tone and colour could be achieved. Iva will work with you to problem solve techniques or processes you may wish to address. You will leave with several plates and lots of prints.
Your tutor, Iva (Ivana Svabic-Cannon) is experienced printmaker/illustrator and a qualified art teacher. She has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad and has been a member of Spike Print Studio since 2000.
