Ever wanted to try intaglio printing, but not sure how to start? Love drypoint line, but don’t have access to a press or print studio? This course will guide you through everything you need to know to make and print drypoint etching plates at home, plus it will also cover using monoprint in your prints and making and using collage papers (chine colle). Suitable for beginners upwards. All live sessions are recorded, so you don’t need to attend all of them.A brilliant opportunity to start your printmaking journey from the comfort of your own home, or to add another thread to your artistic practice- either way, mark making heaven..
Week 1
What is drypoint? Inspiration and ideas. An introduction to different types of plate and mark making tools. Talking about composition, thinking in lines, tones and layers, and transferring images onto a plate.
Homework: to experiment with mark making on your plate(s)
Week 2
Setting up your home print studio, printing experimental marks and troubleshooting, printing together and making collage papers demonstration
Homework: to make considered drypoint plates, ready to print next week. Optional: to make some collage papers
Week 3
Printing our drypoint plates together. Demonstration of monoprinting and different ways to wipe your plate.
Homework: optional- to make collage papers
Week 4
Adding chine colle collage to your prints. Combining wiping, monoprint and collage when you print. Trying any further or different plates.
Week 5
Assessing prints already made. Adding collage after your prints have dried, adding drawing, monoprint and stamps after your prints have dried.
A chance to make more prints together or add to previous ones.
Cropping, mounting and presenting your prints.
