Drypoint at Home – 5 week ONLINE course with Ruth Ander

Tuesday 20th February – 19th March 2024
5 sessions of 1.5 hours, via Zoom – link sent after booking.

A brilliant opportunity to start your printmaking journey from the comfort of your own home, or to add another thread to your artistic practice- either way, mark making heaven.

In this 5 week online course we’ll be working together as Ruth demonstrates and prints alongside participants, to make beautiful, painterly prints of landscape subjects. No prior printing or drawing experience necessary and minimal equipment and materials (materials lost sent out ahead of the course).  We try to make this course as like meeting in a room as we can- so there is sharing work, tips and discoveries throughout. All live sessions are recorded, so you don’t need to attend all of them. Suitable for beginners upwards.

Week 1

Introduction to monoprinting by hand, some inspiration to get you going, and demonstrating basic hand printing techniques so you can start printing at home.

Week 2

Working from photos and sketches, composition and print planning. Transferring drawings to your surface. Mixing colours and tones.

Week 3

Start making intentional and planned prints (that doesn’t mean you’ll always stick to the plan- there’s lots of serendipity involved!).

Demonstrating more print techniques- masking out, stencils and drawing onto the back of your prints.

Week 4

Assessing the prints you’ve made so far. We continue printing our landscapes, as well as picking out other prints to improvise with.

Demonstration- printing with o

bjects and stamping.

Week 5

Collaging with ‘discarded’ prints, finishing prints off (drawing into them, collage), plus how to crop, mount and present your prints.

Ruth Ander is an artist and printmaker.
