Print with your hands! An amazing low tech but high rewards workshop with the inimitable and extremely talented Stephen Fowler.
Neoprene Foam, or known by its other name; craft foam, is a particularly versatile material for relief printing.
Due to its springy nature, a press is not required, just a wooden spoon, bamboo barren or failing that your bare hands will more than suffice.
The foam comes in various sizes from A5 to OA and beyond. Small delicate prints can be made, to bold oversized graphic print impressions (that are not dissimilar to silkscreen print). It is a very immediate and accessible form of print, and no previous experience is needed.
During this exciting one-day workshop you will learn how to create single colour prints, multi-layered colour prints and oversized prints.
Stephen Fowler was born in Bristol, grew up in Cornwall, before leaving to study at Harrow School of Art, and Central Saint Martins in London. In 2021 Fowler graduated from UWE’s Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking MA, and received the Rebecca Smith Memorial Award in recognition for his practice based research into Tetra Pak Collagraph, Kitchen Sink Litho and Rubber Stamping.
Fowler has exhibited internationally at; Tate Modern, Minnesota Centre for Book Arts and White Columns New York. He is a senior lecturer in illustration at the University of Worcester and teaches printmaking at San Francisco Centre for the Book, Spike Print Studio, KKV Grafik, Bath Spa University and Centre for Print Research – University of the West of England.
His guide to Rubber Stamping, published by Lawrence King Publishing, is out now.
