Motoharu Asaka – Woodblock print workshop
This month we held a one day Japanese wood block print workshop with master ukiyoe carver Motoharu Asaka, who is one of the last few remaining to be traditionally trained in this craft.
Motoharu Asaka first went overseas to teach in 2012, doing workshops at various institutions and events in Helsinki and London, and then in subsequent years toured across Europe, the US and Canada. His workshop at Spike Print Studio, Bristol is one of many taking place as part of his Spring 2018 Europe tour.
During the workshop, Motoharu Asaka was assisted by Louise Rouse, who is a Tokyo resident and teaches as an adjunct professor in the art program at Temple University, Japan Campus.
Photos from the event and further information on the history of this beautiful printing craft can be accessed through their website below.
