Join Jemma Gunning for a fun and exciting day exploring the basic processes and principles of etching. Using copper as the matrix she will teach you how to develop your drawings or visual ideas further by exploring the possibilities of etching. The workshop will cover the preparation of hardground and softground plates, the tools that can be used to create varied intaglio marks and how to etch the plates using Ferric Chloride.
This course is great for those new to Intaglio as well as those looking to add to their repertoire or develop a strong set of skills in their current work. This will be a hands-on inky course where you’ll get to take a range of unique prints home with you!
Workshop structure –
- Introduction and welcome
- Demonstration of plate preparation
- Demonstration of hard and soft ground processes
- Participants create and etch plates.
- Demonstration of inking and wiping
- Participants print plates and make a small edition
