10 week Textile Design and Printmaking – Elly Ren

£360

Monday 17 April – 10 July 2023 (incl 3 bank hols)

9.30am – 12.30pm

This course will teach ways of exploring the world to find inspiration and generate ideas through mood boards and trend research into a collection of surface pattern designs to use on homewares, fashion, or stationery pieces. We will explore ideas taken from sketching and mark making experiments and gain an understanding of different motif styles like florals, geometrics or abstracts, right  through to realising a collection of design samples, or a finished product of your choice. Using simple digital techniques to create silk screen stencils, as well as free-form mono printing and stencilling techniques, we will discover a realm of pattern and colour expressed though repeat patterns and placement prints onto fabric.

Producing bold colourful prints for the womenswear fashion industry, Elly works as freelance surface pattern and textile designer in Bristol, UK. She focuses on florals and abstract designs whilst cultivating a dedicated drawing, painting and printmaking practice, bringing to life sources of inspiration from the natural world, design trends, and haute couture. Elly has an undergraduate degree in Sculpture and an MA in Fine Art. She worked as a fine art painter and conceptual artist focusing on performance art before developing a textile and surface pattern design practice.
