Textile Design and Lampshade Making weekend workshop with Justyna Medon

£225

Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 September 2023

10am-4pm

During this weekend workshop we will explore  sublimation and transfer printing techniques which allow pigments, foils and flocks to be transferred onto fabric via heat and pressure. The sublimation process enables the designer to create multicoloured designs on synthetic fibres but also gives great results on natural fabric. It is a great way to produce fabric samples representing the intriguing style and hand-painted qualities.

While experimenting with transfer techniques you will learn how to combine screen printing for creative use of foils and flocks, paint on paper and transfer your designs on to fabric. We will research marks and textures, forms and colours which will reflect urban mood or botanical inspiration. We will talk about the composition and create a unique print for a lampshade of 20 cm diameter.

Students will develop the technical knowledge and skills required to prepare design for print, explore various techniques of how to apply patterns for  lampshade decoration. This workshop will help to understand the art of hand decoration, by experimenting with a variety of basic printing methods, such as stencils, silk screen and transfer technique. Students will develop their confidence  and skills in handling materials and equipment while creating images and developing them into surface decoration.

During second day of the workshop, we will make lampshade.
