Molly Lemon
Molly Lemon has be awarded a scholarship from Spike Print Studio to complete the 1 year Contemporary Relief course. I asked Molly to tell us about herself and her experience on the course.
“As a printmaker in Bristol, Spike Print Studio was always somewhere I was interested in but had never found the time to explore the building and it’s resources. So being given a scholarship meaning I had the opportunity to join the one year Contemporary Relief Printmaking Course in September was brilliant. We have been exploring lino, wood engraving and letter press so far. We have layered up our prints, printed on fabric and have been taught how to use all the beautiful printing presses they have in the studio.
Learning different techniques and getting new ideas has been an invaluable part of the course, but being able to attend the class alongside like-minded people has been the highlight for me. I usually work alone in my home studio so getting the opportunity to learn new skills and exchange ideas has become the best part of my week.
This course has helped me to improve my wood engraving skills and this is a technique which I’d like to take forward and try to master. I love the amount of detail you can get on such small block. The course has taught me new techniques so I’d like to keep exploring different ways of printing, pushing the boundaries and getting the most out of each approach”
