Project Gemini at Spike Print Studio
Project Gemini, Emma Gregory and Sarah Duncan
19 January – 09 February 2017
Spike Print Studio, Spike Island Corridor Space
Spike Print Studio presents a show of site specific installations exploring ocular and astral themes by Sarah Duncan and Emma Gregory.
For their starting point the artists took a series of photogravure plates produced by Duncan and the cylindrical light wells along the corridor. The original prints reflect Duncan’s interest in astronomy, light and sight, and research conducted at Kitt Peak National Observatory, Arizona in 2015.
Here Duncan has worked in collaboration with Emma Gregory to revisit the content of the original pieces. Initially they examined the prints in juxtaposition with the cylindrical light wells along the corridor, thereby creating fresh layers of meaning. Subsequently they worked this rich seam of content, making and installing sculptural pieces with astral, lenticular, geometric and lunar themes.
Both artists are Bristol based and members of Spike Print Studio, exhibiting nationally and internationally. Emma also leads the Press Play and Paper Structures courses on behalf of the Studio.
